A Moment of Your Time [Aug. 16th, 2008|12:42 am]
Very rarely do I ask for anyone's true attention for anything.

This is one of the times that I would ask you to take a moment and read a few notes, because it is important.

Not too long ago, a motion was passed in the Illinois General Assembly to include a Constitutional Convention on the November Ballot.  The motion (which passed by a narrow margin) must be ratified by the citizens of Illinois before the Illinois Constitution can be rewritten.

The motion was presented and passed so that the constitution can be rewritten to remove Governor Rod Blagojevich (or future Governors like him) from power.  (Currently, there is language in the constitution which makes it difficult to remove him unless he does something actually illegal instead of just shady.)  This was a bi-partisan motion that was proposed by a Democrat and passed by the General Assembly.  As stated earlier, in order for this to happen, the people of Illinois have to ratify it before the Constitutional Convention can be held.

Here is the absolute important part:

This would open the Illinois Constitution for a full rewrite, allowing whatever political party currently in power to change the way that everything in the State Government is run.  In other states where this has happened (Michigan), it has led to a loss of Pensions, Retirement Funds, and Support Programs like the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (for all State Employees) and TRS (Teacher Pensions) forcing those State workers to move to Social Security or seek privatized IRA or 401Ks (losing almost all accrued benefits in the process.)

The Constitution of Illinois is not the problem.  Governor Blagojevich and his administration are the problem.  While the Constitutional Convention would allow legislators to attempt to remove Blagojevich from his position through a simple recall vote of the people, opening the doors to massive Constitutional changes will likely hurt more people that removing Blagojevich will help.

While you may not care about State Workers and their pensions, I do.  I don't want to go on Social Security.  It's only been a few years, but I don't want to lose the benefits that I've earned.  Mostly, I don't want to see Teacher's get hit again by government policy.

If you are so inclined to help, in November please vote "No" to the Constitutional Convention.  If you are not so inclined to help, perhaps you could skip that one on your Ballot - after all, no vote is also a "no" vote because it will require a certain number of total votes to pass.  If you really want to vote "Yes," I'd love an opportunity to discuss with you your reasons why and maybe have a shot at changing your mind.

Thank you for your attention

The Year in Review [Dec. 31st, 2007|02:01 pm]

As a student of the classics, I prefer a solid literary structure to the story of my life.  I also enjoy dynamic characterization and subtle thematic variance to the plot elements.

Also, for those who are unaware, I consider birthdays to be more geared toward resolutions.  New Year's is more about the celebration of new calendars and (this year) a warm-up for GLaRE.

Speaking of which, I can't wait till that gets here.  \m/

Yeah, that's it.

I Quit. [Jun. 11th, 2007|02:44 am]
[mood | Zen]

It's easier to keep a promise than it is to break a habit.

I promise to all of you that I am done smoking.

I'm coming off of an excellent con, I had some ultra great conversations, the Universe is in order, and my pack is empty. There is no better time to go through a few days of nicotine withdrawl.

For those of you who smoke, please do not bum me one even if I ask. Even if I threaten to do something or reveal something if you don't give me a smoke, don't give me one. I'm full of shit. Tell me that I'm a full of shit. Quote me directly as a source.

For those you who don't smoke, give me positive reinforcement. Remind me how much better I'll feel and how much money I'll save.

For both groups, if you see me smoking, do the various random things you promised you'd do if you see me smoking after I quit. Then remind me of my promise and make me feel guilty.

It's easier to keep a promise than it is to break a habit.

LOL - Love the title [Nov. 9th, 2006|06:29 pm]

"Not now, my children, not now."
The False Messiah
Deliberate Brutal Love Master (DBLMm)

People believe in you, and then you send them to hell. Behold, the False Messiah.

You're usually a very kind person, and conscientious, too. Socially, you're a leader, and your friends and associates look up to you. In intimate relationships, you're a capable, responsive, and experienced lover. Outside the box, however, you run into trouble.

Your exact opposite:
The Pool Boy

Random Gentle Sex Dreamer
Girls fall hard for you, but you're much more ambivalent about them. The beginnings of your relationships are unusually intense, making it all the rougher on her when they end. At first, using all your accumulated tricks of the trade, you ladle on the affection. But once she's all covered in soup, you withhold the true napkins of commitment. What's that all about? We should've called you the False Waiter.

You're looking for Love. But history tells us you struggle to settle down and accept it. There's a deep streak of carnality within you. And while you'll never be a predator, you'll always fight the urge to roam free. You like to plan things out, so plan this: find someone who can indulge your selfish side, has a healthy sexual appetite, and doesn't mind uncertainty.

[Cam] Mage Goodness [Nov. 2nd, 2006|09:52 pm]
[mood | quixotic]

So I came to the realization today that I hated my mage character. Granted, I've only played him once, but he really is a pain the ass - and I don't need two characters that are both pains in the ass.

Hence - the birth of a new mage character.

Right now I want to stick with making a character that is sort of protege type (has some powers but doesn't really know his full potential yet.)

I'm looking at Moros or Obrimos - but I think I want to go AA on this one and make a Mage who's willing to fight the good fight.

As always, at this point I'm willing to hear suggestions/idea/character ties that people have.

For the Moros I think I would want to go with an Extreme Sports person who almost died and then awakened.

For the Obrimos, I'm thinking maybe a guy who stumbled onto a Hollow while hiking and got sorta mana zapped.

I don't know. Thoughts anyone?

1/8 of the school year pwnd!

Ironically 12.5% is the lowest percentage any of my students have managed to achieve this year. I must be doing better, last year at this time I had a student with an 8%. He mathematically failed my class in week 6 of an 18 week semester; that's world class slacking, btw.
